Your extensive holiday to visit China's highlights starts in the capital city. Beijing is home to centuries-old laneways called hutongs and a significant portion of the most famous wall on the planet. Following your marvellous visit to Xian's Army of Terracotta Warriors, take in some of the country's most spectacular natural landscapes at Yellow Mountain.

Shanghai's pace is astounding, with shopping and nightlife galore, and suitably contrasted by peaceful Yunnan Province where you will come face-to-face with the legendary utopia of Shangri-La.

Beijing, Xian, Hangzhou, Tunxi, Huang Shan, Shanghai, Guilin, Yangshuo, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Zhongdian.

Trip grading: ADVENTUROUS Suitable for travellers with an above-average level of fitness and mobility. Prepare for some long road journeys, an overnight train, stairs at Yellow Mountain, high altitude conditions at Zhongdian and plenty of walking.
