Backroads of Laos - 10 days

2012 - Your Journey starts Luang Prabang, ends Vientiane

DAYS 1-3 - LUANG PRABANG
On arrival in Luang Prabang, transfer to your hotel. A welcome drink gives you a chance to mingle with your small group of fellow travellers and tour leader. Try your hand at bamboo weaving and spend time with one of the monks at Wat Mai for an insight into the Buddhist way of life. Learn about traditional cuisine in a Lao cooking class and regard the beauty of Kuang Si falls, before visiting a nearby bear sanctuary to watch these endearing creatures romp in their jungle playground. Witness the spectacular sight of monks collecting alms at dawn.
Hotel: Sala Prabang (Lodge)

DAYS 4-5 - PLAIN OF JARS
A panoramic drive through the Lao countryside leads to the remote town of Phonsavan. Here lies one of Laos’ most intriguing sights, the Plain of Jars, where large stone jars of ambiguous origin lie scattered across the fields. Stop at the MAG visitors’ centre, an organisation dealing with unexploded ordinance issues in Laos.
Hotel: Auberge Plain Des Jarres

DAYS 6-7 - VANG VIENG
Travel by road to Vang Vieng, with its limestone outcrops, caves and picturesque river. Soak up the carefree vibe and gorgeous surrounds and embark on a kayaking trip down the Nam Song to discover caves before paddling back to the hotel at sunset.
Hotel: Thavonsouk Resort

DAYS 8-10 - VIENTIANE
Continue your journey to Laos’ sleepy capital, Vientiane. Discover the city’s key historical and religious monuments and take part in a traditional Baci ceremony in a family home. Explore the city’s thriving markets on your own time. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.
Hotel: Le Leela Hotel
