DAYS 1-2: YANGON (RANGOON)
On arrival in Yangon transfer to your hotel for free time before your welcome dinner, a chance to meet your tour leader and travelling companions. A walking tour of the city reveals the majestic British-colonial architecture and the Sule Pagoda. Wander through the Indian and Chinese quarters for a look at local life. Watch the sun sink behind the Shwedagon Pagoda - the golden spire that dominates the city’s skyline.

DAYS 3-4: BAGAN (PAGAN)
A short flight brings you to Bagan, famous for plains filled with literally thousands of beautiful temples. See the Thagyar Pone temple with magnificent views across the plains and the Ananda temple before viewing some of the temples and pagodas in the golden light of sunset with a romantic horsecart ride. A full day of exploring Bagan includes the stunning murals and carvings at the Gubyaukgyi Temple and a visit to a local school. Discover the local handicraft of wood carving at a workshop, and then take a peaceful cruise on the Irrawaddy River, stopping at a local village. Return to Bagan by boat at sunset.

DAYS 5-6: MANDALAY
After an early morning flight to Mandalay, stop at Ava, the capital from the 14th to the 18th century. A horse and carriage brings you to the old, wooden Bagaya Monastery. See Mandalay Hill on a city tour, followed by the Golden Palace Monastery and a huge marble Buddha at the Kyauktawgyi Pagoda. Marvel at the ‘World’s Largest Book’, over 700 stone slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings. Wander along a 200-year-old teak bridge, spanning over two kilometres. At Sagaing Hill, see hundreds of white-washed pagodas. With over 3,000 monks and nuns, this is widely regarded as the religious centre of Burma. Here, a trip to a local nunnery to share lunch with the nuns is a highlight for many travellers.

DAY 7: INLE LAKE
Your morning flight brings you to Heho. Explore the Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery and enjoy some free time, before your cruise on Inle Lake. Discover the fascinating floating gardens, which rise and fall with the tides to avoid flooding and Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary. Explore a cheroot factory, where typical Burmese cigars are made by hand.

DAYS 8-9: YANGON (RANGOON)
Spend a full day cruising the lake. Visit the morning market, where you can meet local hilltribe people who gather from the surrounding area and explore a local village and beautiful ruined ancient stupas before you transfer to the airport for your flight to Yangon. On your last day, enjoy free time in Yangon before your departure transfer.
