This peaceful exploration brings you into local homes for steaming yak butter tea, through cloistered ancient monasteries and amongst local markets for an authentic adventure outside the tourist route.
2013
DAYS 1-2: KUNMING & DALI
On arrival in Kunming, transfer to your hotel. Fly to the ancient town of Dali, set against spectacular mountain vistas on the shores of Erhai Lake. A stroll through the streets of the old town is delightful, before a chance to see the striking Three Pagodas. A chairlift ride is the perfect way to absorb the stunning scenes of the area. In nearby Xizhou Village, wander through the market and observe daily life in this beautiful Bai ethnic minority village.

DAYS 3-4: LIJIANG
A town of cobbled lanes, rushing canals and rustic stone and timber houses, Lijiang has an atmosphere like nowhere else in China. Climb Lion Hill for sweeping views over the town and roam the peaceful Yufeng Monastery. There is plenty of time to wander the market square, hear the traditional Naxi music, or feast on a special Yunnan rice pot in a local restaurant.

DAYS 5-6: ZHONGDIAN
The road beyond Lijiang winds its way along the upper reaches of the Yangtze to Tiger Leaping Gorge, claimed to be the world’s deepest. Passing dazzling scenery, continue to Zhongdian, an enthralling town that is home to a large Tibetan community. Pause to reflect at the 300-year-old Songzanlin Monastery, perched on a hillside high above the town and experience the warmth of Tibetan hospitality over a cup of yak butter tea at a local family home.

DAYS 7-8: KUNMING
A short flight brings you to Kunming, and the engaging Yunnan Museum of Minority Nationalities. Here uncover countless cultural relics of ethnic minorities. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.
